Hi! I’m Brianna Avenia-Tapper— writer, editor, and mom. I have published essays, book reviews, and author interviews in Pigeon Pages, Riverteeth blog, Literary Mama, MUTHA Magazine, Hobart, Barrelhouse, The Rumpus, Brevity Blog, Chicago Review of Books, and elsewhere. My essay Fertility Awareness was named a notable essay in Best American Essays, and I recently spent three years as a volunteer editor for Literary Mama.

I created the author-interview podcast Writing Stories, which will be in the capable hands of Jessica Kinnison (writer, teacher, creative mover and shaker) at least until 2026. During this time I’ll be seeking representation for my first novel, scrambling to finish a draft of my second, and reimagining my memoir manuscript as a collection of illustrated essays. (I’m told I also need to keep my children fed and clothed.)

In my pre-writing, pre-motherhood life, I taught English language learners in the US, Russia, and Kazakhstan for 8 years. I then taught pedagogy to prospective and practicing teachers at NYU, Hunter, and Columbia University Teachers College. I’ve earned a PhD in Education (applied linguistics —TESOL) from NYU, an MA in Social Science from the University of Chicago, and a BA in Theater Arts (directing) from Bard College.

Are you looking for developmental editing? A book coach? An ADHD-friendly writing class? Podcast creation guidance? I’d love to work with you! I charge on a sliding scale. Shoot me an email using the form below if you’d like to discuss options.
